Dr. Brooks has been a practicing physician for over 43 years. She graduated with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude in 1976 with distinction in biology and psychology and then went on to earn her doctorate of medicine from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY in 1980. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Lukes Hospital Center, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1983 followed by a residency in Emergency Medicine at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1985, attaining board certification in both. Her love for patient care, teaching and clinical research earned her a faculty position at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the departments of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine where she remained until 1993 when she took the position as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY to be closer to her home and children and to serve the community where she lived. Her job consisted of administrative responsibilities, quality assurance, development of programs in the Emergency Department, hospital, and community, education of prehospital providers, midlevel providers and medical residents as well as direct patient care. During the latter part of her tenure she joined the team at the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at Vassar Brothers Medical Center becoming the Medical Director, growing the center and earning her board certification in Wound Care. With a heavy heart, leaving patients and a staff she loved, Dr. Brooks retired from her fulltime medical practice in NY March 2023 and moved to Arizona making Sedona her new home. Missing patient care and dissatisfied with the lack of medical providers and access to medical care in the area, she has joined Verde Community Healthcare as a Primary Care Physician to help close the gap. Her practice of medicine has always been patient centric putting the patient first and caring for the whole patient. It has always been important to serve the community she resides in and is excited to provide medical care to her local population. Dr. Brooks enjoys yoga, weight training, hiking, and reading and is an active member of Friends of the Forest.
